CANARY ISLAND

FUERTEVENTURA

Fuerteventura offers a great number of surf spots. These spots vary with changing swell and wind conditions that can make reef or beach breaks work perfectly – or not. Some work only under specific conditions, others are great for surfing almost every day and invite you to grab your board and throw yourself into the waves. Whether waves for beginners or barrels for advanced surfers – you will definitely get your money’s worth.

Fuerteventura will always offer spots where you can practice new skills or live out the ones you already have. You only have to know where to go. Our surf guide will take care of this for you.

The North Shore – like the name already tells you, the North Shore lies on the northern coast of Fuerteventura. Here, a number of reefbreaks await especially the advanced surfers. The coast begins in Corralejo and ends about 20km later at the famous lighthouse in El Cotillo.  Most of the spots work best in the months from September to April. During this time, winds regularly visit the island from the east and south (offshore), which is necessary for these spots. Winds in Fuerteventura predominantly come from the north.

The West of Fuerteventura offers a number of deserted beaches that catch a lot of swell. This might be too much swell for beginners, which is why we don’t put too much emphasis on this region unless the swell is overall low or in summer where the waves are perfect for beginners.

The East also offers very nice surf spots. There are sections near the airport that require a good NE or N swell.

We’ll take you to the best spot according to the conditions of the day, for an unforgettable surf session. Improve your level while discovering new spots, different waves and techniques on The Search with us.

LAGOS

PORTUGAL

Sufing in Algarve is a very unique experience. Unlike Ericeira, Portugal’s premium surf town, the Algarve region is a peninsula strategically positioned on the south-western tip of Portugal.

This feature allows the surfers to find good conditions on almost any given day as long as you choose the right side of the peninsula depending on the swell and wind direction.

The Algarve region includes the cities of Faro, Sagres and Lagos amongst many others, which are all very popular surf towns.

Algarve is a top destination for surfers from all around the world and particularly for Europeans because of proximity reasons.

As this region is blessed with very consistent surfing conditions, rarely will you find a day without anywhere to surf. Many young travelers rush to Algarve in summer leading to some very good social life and opportunities to meet fellow surfers.

The western Algarve is arguably the best surf territory in the whole of Portugal. It’s got miles upon miles of stunning bays, most of them pretty remote.

The waves are really reliable, because they have a swell window open to anything in the NW down to the SW channels. It can get big here, but there’s also plenty for beginners.

The south Algarve has nowhere near the same consistency as the west Algarve. However, we would never write it off. There are actually some seriously good quality breaks in the area, like the hollow walls of Zavial (hotly contested, mind you). When the winter is battering the Atlantic seaboard, it can also be one of the best places to seek shelter and catch some nice waves. The water’s warmer, too, and the weather is fine…
